Title:

Coordinator for Student Activities, CUNY

Charmaine Worthy has proudly served as CUNY’s Coordinator for Student Activities for the past two years, where she provides support to CUNY student leaders in their efforts to create, sustain, and self-govern University-wide student organizations.  These organizations include, but are not limited to the University Student Senate – the representative governing body of CUNY’s more than half-million students – and the CUNY Coalition for Students with Disabilities – the representative organization of CUNY’s more than 9,000 students with disabilities.

She lends her support these University-wide student organizations by empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and tools to establish their own policies, manage their own finances, and elect their own leaders. I also serve as student leaders’ liaison to the CUNY Chancellery and Board of Trustees. Finally, she supports these leaders in the identification of organizational priorities and in campaigns to advance these priorities.

Her expertise to serve in this role is grounded, in part, in her experiences as CUNY one of the University’s legendary student leaders.  Indeed, Charmaine’s historic accomplishments as a student leader at Queens College include securing $5.4 million from the New York State Legislature to save the College’s Student Union Building; becoming the first-ever African-American to serve as the College’s Student Association President; and serving as the founder of the Queens College chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority.
